The name "8-9-8" comes from its traditional three-layer packaging arrangement: each box is divided into three layers holding 8, 9, and 8 cigars respectively, totaling 25. Cigar Aficionado magazine once gave it a high score of 93 points, evaluating it as "oily, perfectly constructed, containing rich and balanced flavors from leather, earth to coffee and spices, with a long finish and roasted aroma." This cigar is very suitable for aging. New cigars may be relatively mild and direct; after 3 to 5 years of cellaring, their flavors become more integrated.
