Vegas Robaina was officially launched in 1997, a brand created by Habanos S.A. to pay tribute to the legendary figure in Cuban tobacco, known as the "Godfather of Cuban Tobacco" Alejandro Robaina. It is one of the very few brands named after a living tobacco grower and his family's plantation. The Robaina family has deeply cultivated in the San Luis town of the Vuelta Abajo region since 1845. The wrapper leaves produced by their estate are famous for their extremely high quality and excellent yield rate.
