Vegueros officially debuted in 1996. Its name means "tobacco growers" in Spanish, aiming to pay tribute to the generations of farmers guarding the tobacco growing tradition in Cuba's Pinar del Río region. The brand originated from the Francisco Donatién factory established in San Luis town in 1961, which initially produced cigars for local consumption and state banquets. In 2013, Habanos S.A. conducted a comprehensive rebranding of the brand, replacing it with a highly modern metal tin packaging, and launched large ring gauge models adapting to modern tastes.
