Diplomáticos is the first new cigar brand launched after the Cuban Revolution (1966) by the state-owned tobacco company Habanos S.A. Its original purpose was to provide the French market with a milder and more economical alternative to Montecristo. The original 1966 sizes included No.1 to No.5, with two more added in 1976. The initial five vitolas completely replicated Montecristo's classic sizes.
